Proposal for EU measures for the supply of critical raw materials

The Commission has today proposed a comprehensive set of measures to ensure EU access to a secure, diversified, affordable and sustainable supply of critical raw materials. Critical raw materials are indispensable for a wide range of strategic sectors, including zero net emissions industries, digital industries, aerospace and defense. This measure is particularly sensitive in our PV and battery technology industry, where the vast majority of products and equipment are imported from China, with critical raw materials such as rare earth metals being mined either directly in China or in foreign mines controlled by Chinese companies.
